Read To Live is a reading skills tutoring program for incarcerated youth that is funded and managed by the Contra Costa Youth Council, a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.

Read To Live's dedicated tutors employ the Barton Method to dramatically improve the reading proficiency of young men during their time at the Orrin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility in Byron, California.

Read To Live employs 3 tutors and trains an average of 40 students every year. Tutors work intensely with students one-on-one, one hour per day, five days a week. Students spend three to five months studying with a tutor, and are able to raise their reading and spelling scores by an average range one half to one whole grade level per month!
